Happenings
Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 3:17PM Hey Peeps, long time sorry. I have been busy, new camera, printer, picked up a downtown condo in Edmonton, and the last few days have flown across two provinces.
Okay I'll start from the beginning. The new camera is suuppperrrb, images are ridiculously crisp, color is extremely accurate, video quality is outstanding, so yeah I'm happy with the purchase. This investment will most definitely pay for itself in a short time. The full frame sensor is especially nice with my L series lenses, The 17-40mm has a unique look to it when shooting at 17mm. One thing I noticed is the light falls off quite abruptly in the corners when shooting at 17mm. And the printer, wow what a stunning piece of machinery. The day after my 5d came in the mail I jumped in the plane and started snapping shots/video. I retook the images at Interpipeline as this camera is much higher quality than my 40d, and it certainly paid off as they were most impressed with the quality of the picture. Video is quite difficult to capture while flying so I will most likely have to hire my brother to help me get some aerial stock video. If anyone knows of a good affordably gyro mount for dslr camera's please email or comment below.
Future goal is to rack up a bunch of aerial images and put on a gallery show in Edmonton. Oh and about the condo, i've been looking for a new place in Edmonton for a few months now, finally found one that would suite my personality, it overlooks the river valley and has an open space concept, more of a loft style condo. It's the perfect space for me to seriously start working in photography/video/media.
The past few days has turned out to be quite adventurous, but I am glad I am here to blog about it! November 9th I left Edmonton late in the evening headed for Unity, SK. It's a good thing I am taking my night rating as I arrived just after sunset and had to use the airport's landing lights to bring me in. After spending a day in Unity getting my annual inspection done by my dear friend Jim Reese, I took off for Disley, Sk. As I was flying by Saskatoon I once again realized I did not have much sunlight left, and up ahead of me was a massive cloud that extended from the ground to at least 7,000 ft. I quickly decided to turn North for Corman airpark, small strip outside of Saskatoon, lucky for me I had a huge tail wind and made it there with about 2 minutes of sunlight to spare, this airport is not equipped with night lighting. As I was on coarse for Saskatoon I texted my ex figure skating coach, she was happy to come pick me up and take me in for the night. The next morning I was able to take off for my final destination, my uncle's private strip located just outside of Regina. So now I am here in Lumsden for a few days taking video/photography for the 2010 BMO sectionals skating competition.
That's it for now, next week check back for some aerial video footage as well as this weekends event coverage!
